Differential calculus, a branch of calculus, is the study of finding out the rate of change of a variable compared to another variable, by using functions.It is a way to find out how a shape changes from one point to the next, without needing to divide the shape into an infinite number of pieces.

While differential calculus focuses on the curve itself, integral calculus concerns itself with the space or area under the curve. Integral calculus is used to figure the total size or value, such as lengths, areas, and volumes. It is also the modern name for what used to be called the absolute differential calculus (the foundation of tensor calculus), developed by Gregorio Ricci-Curbastro in 1887–1896, and subsequently popularized in a paper written with his pupil Tullio Levi-Civita in 1900.
